Background

The first precursor to the Self-learning Language Office in Pachuca was the Self-access Center, established in 1994 with the aim of supporting the English programs in the schools and institutes of the “Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo”. It also aimed to provide an alternative learning option for those who are not enrolled in formal courses who wished to study autonomously. The core concept of self-learning emphasizes autonomy in learning; providing interested individuals with the space, materials, and necessary environment to promote self-directed learning. This learning philosophy acknowledges that each person has a unique learning style and specific needs regarding their study interests. Therefore, the Self-learning Language Center offers a variety of materials and study areas for these diverse needs.
